The Arab World - Reading and hearing this expression spontaneously and subconsciously awakens a number of pictures, emotions and impressions in each person. Up until now, the Arabic World has always been a world full of myths and fascination for Europeans. In addition to the fascination it has also been a foreign and sometimes frightening world.
During the past few years, mainly due to September 11th, the perception of the Arabic World has changed. Nowadays, media, politics and society who interact with each other draw a consistent picture about terrorism, Islamism and opression.
But what is really the truth? How much do we really know about the life and culture of the Arabic World? In time of such conflict, isn`t it necessary to develop a mutual understanding?
We, AIESEC Mainz/Wiesbaden, would like to discuss these questions in the framework of an open forum. For a whole day, our forum with exhibitions, discussions and lectures, lead by international and qualified experts from politics, science and economy, will clarify questions, reduce prejudices, enlarge knowledge and create curiosity.
In the months before the forum, three previous lectures will provide deeper insights into the Arabic World. On December 1st our forum will take place at Johannes-Gutenberg-University in Mainz and about 1000 guests are expected.
We are glad to announce that the expert for the Arabic World and President of (IAMES) Association for Middle Eastern Studies and director of the Center for Research on the Arab World (CERAW), Prof. Dr. Gnter Meyer is our patron for this forum.
The members of AIESEC Mainz/Wiesbaden would like to encourage young people to be part of a dialogue and not caught in a fight between the cultures.Through mutual understanding we would like to make a contribution for a peaceful future. We would like to build a bridge between the Arab and Western World.
