Bustan is an environmental justice group based in Israel. Devorah Brous and Ra'ed Al-Mickawi, the directors, discuss the current plan for the development of the Negev, which is irreversibly impacting the landscape and ancient desert cultures. Bustan creates models of sustainability using permaculture, wind turbines, solar ovens, and grey water, while it develops political partnerships among the Jewish and Bedouin populations that combine advocacy, in-depth political analysis, and non-violent direct actions that protect the communities rooted in the land.
Recorded on October 14, 2007 in Palo Alto, CA, by Peninsula Peace and Justice Center.
